Problem Note 53999: PROC SURVEYMEANS might generate errors when variables are joined with an asterisk in the DOMAIN statement

DetailsAboutRate It

In the SURVEYMEANS procedure, if a DOMAIN statement is specified with character variables of varying lengths joined by asterisks (*), the procedure might abend with

ERROR: You may have found a bug in PROC SURVEYMEANS. Please save
your program and report these messages to your SAS
representative. Error in matching domain levels.

This error occurs when either of the following conditions is also true:

  • The procedure option VARMETHOD=JACKKNIFE or JK is specified.
  • A RATIO statement is specified.

To circumvent this problem, set the length the same for all of the character variables in the DOMAIN statement. You can change the length of a variable by specifying a LENGTH statement prior to a SET statement in a DATA step.
